San Antonio Spurs small forward Kawhi Leonard has been named NBA Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season, becoming the second wing player in history to win the award in back to back seasons.

Sidney Moncrief of the Milwaukee Bucks won the award in 1982-83 and 1983-84 seasons.

Defensive Player of the Year usually goes to an interior player, but Leonard has stood out as the best defensive player on the best defensive team.

Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green finished second in voting for the second straight year. Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside finished third.

New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis finished with 1 first place and 1 third place vote, leaving him 9th overall in voting. Davis finished 4th for NBA DPOY honors last season.
