Kansas City Chiefs Fire Defensive Coordinator
While the NFC Championship no call was a debacle, the Kansas City Chiefs defense late in the AFC Championship Game was just as much of a mess as the New England Patriots were picking them apart...
The Patriots scored touchdowns on three consecutive drives, including the game-winner in overtime to leave MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes on the sidelines without a chance. Bob Sutton's defense left little to be desired a week after they dominated the Indianapolis Colts in the Divisional Round. In addition, Kansas City allowed 524 yards from scrimmage and 36 first downs against New England.
After management talked to players and other coaches they have decided to let go of their longtime defensive coordinator Tuesday, who had been with the team since 2013. It was a lack of adjustments they're saying is what led to Sutton's firing from Kansas City and of course not being able to give Mahomes a chance in overtime.
A possible candidate whose name is being thrown around is former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator and New York Jets/Buffalo Bills head coach, Rex Ryan. That would be quite the pairing with Andy Ried.
