Former Michigan State and Louisville head coach John L. Smith has been named head football coach at Arkansas.

Although the "interim" is not in his title, the hiriing is for a ten month period.

Former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino worked under Smith at Louisville.

Smith had not been a head coach since 2006 when he was forced out at Michigan State.  He was named coach at Weber State in the spring.

A permanent coach is scheduled to be hired after the 2012 football season.
