The Houston Astros named A.J. Hinch the club's new manger on Monday.

The 40-year old Hinch becomes the 18th full-time manager in franchise history.

Hinch joins the Astros from San Diego, where he most recently served as the club's vice president and assistant GM for three years (2011-14), after serving as the the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks from  2009-2010, where he compiled an overall record of 89-123.

As a player, Hinch played for seven seasons (1998-2004), primarily as a catcher, with the A's, Royals, Tigers, and Phillies, accumulating a career batting average of .219, along with 32 home runs, and 112 runs batted in.
