In the first postseason edition of the High School Football Forecast, Carencro, Highland Baptist and Erath have electrifying match ups.

We decided to add in Team and Player of the Week for the beginning of the postseason, and the two winners were more than deserving. Cecilia locked down Team of the Week for blowing St. Martinville out of the water to claim District 5-4A, and they only needed one half to reach their 44-0 scoreline. Stefano Guarisco ripped down Player of the Week honors for Central Catholic-Morgan City, as he toted the rock 35 times for over 300 yards and 5 TD's on the ground for a share of District 7-1A.

Guarisco and the Eagles have a #3 seed in Division IV, while Cecilia earned a #3 seed in Class 4A. With that said, ready to talk some playoffs?

Does it get any better than seeds separated by a single spot? Didn't think so. Carencro and Highland Baptist are both locked into the hardest games to pick in their respective brackets.

Let's start with Carencro. The Bears welcome Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) into town, and they already traveled to Lafayette to hand out a loss once this year.

Woodlawn's only losses of the year came to Destrehan, St. Amant and Plaquemine. All three of those teams could get the better of most teams on a given day, so their record is pretty deceiving. At the same time, Carencro has the capability to topple even the most loaded of arsenals. Ask Teurlings about Carencro. They'll tell you to beware of Tyreik Campbell and Gabe Duffy.

While Campbell and Duffy shoulder the load for Carencro, Brontre Griffin puts the entire team on his back for Highland Baptist.

Highland checks in at the #8 seed in Division IV, which means they get the #8-#9 matchup with Cedar Creek. It will be a matchup of offense versus defense, with Griffin well over 2,000 yards on the season at RB and Cedar Creek putting the clamps on people all year. Which game style will win out? The result on Friday will tell us the answer to that question.

On KPEL 96.5, Ian Auzenne and Brandon Comeaux will bring you Erath vs Iowa, where it will be the Elijah Mitchell show. He's the leading man for Erath, and college scouts are climbing over each other to get to him.

Mitchell could propel Erath to a victory, and Griffin and Campbell could do the same for our local squads.

At this point in the year, it's time to put aside some grudges and cheer for the area teams. With some of the local powerhouses sure to smash their seeded opponents, why not pick a close game to get invested in?
