Spring is right around the corner, and if you are looking for some interesting, off the beaten path things to do with the family once the weather gets warmer, then we gotcha covered. Only in Louisiana has reminded me of some really cool places that are fun to visit, interesting, and might not come top of mind when you're looking for that Louisiana experience. I'd start out with Tabasco, which is my favorite, but check out the rest of the list below.

  • Abita Brewing Company, 166 Barbee Rd, Covington. The original and oldest craft brewery in the state. Self guided tours are free, and Craft Soda tours are $2.50. Both are family friendly, and Abita has special events throughout the year as well.
  • Conrad Rice Mill, 207 Ann Street, New Iberia. The oldest rice mill in the nation, and a very historic place to visit right in the heart of New Iberia. Founded in 1912, and still in it's original building.
  • Mardi Gras World, 1380 Port of New Orleans Pl, New Orleans. You can see floats being made, and the artists that designed them, all year. They are a pretty spectacular sight up close!
  • The International Petroleum Museum and Exposition, 111 1st Street, Morgan City. You can tour an actual oil rig here.
  • Tabasco, Avery Island. This place has just undergone a multi million dollar renovation, but it's just as charming as it has been for the past 150 years that it's been in business. One of the most famous name brands in the world, and a must see for tourists and locals alike.
