Five UL Softball Players Named To All-Region Team
Five members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns were named to the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Central Region Team, which was announced by the organization on Thursday.
The all-region awards honor softball student-athletes from the NFCA's 10 regions with first, second and third team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams.
Each of Louisiana's honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2019 NFCA Division I All-American squads.
The All-America teams will be announced at approximately 4 p.m. (CDT) on Wednesday, May 29, via NFCA.org.
The selections mark the 32nd consecutive year that at least one Ragin' Cajun received all-region accolades and increases the program's all-time total number of selections to 131.
For the 12th consecutive year, Louisiana had multiple honorees.
A junior right-hander, Ellyson went 34-4 during the regular season, to go along with a 0.98 ERA. and 303 strikeouts.
Ellyson, who was recently named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year, makes the NFCA All-Central Region Team for the second straight year, after finishing atop the Sun Belt Conference league statistical categories in wins, ERA., strikeouts, opposing batting average (.154), and innings pitched (228.1).
Like Ellyson, Dalton makes the NFCA All-Central Region Team for the second straight year.
Hudek, the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year, hit .355 this season, to go along with 10 homers and 38 RBI's, after transferring to Louisiana from Texas A&M.
A junior, Hudek finished the regular season tied for the conference lead in total bases (100).
The Cajuns were well-represented on the team, as expected, after going 50-4, overall, this season.
