The deeper we get into October, the more intriguing the game in college football will become.  Right now there are 20 FBS teams that are undefeated.  There's a good chance more than a couple will fall this weekend.

Here are some of the matchups to keep an eye on.

FRIDAY

SOUTHERN MISS (3-2, 1-0) at MARSHALL (4-1, 1-0) (-5) 6pm CBSCollege Sports--We've been waiting for the Golden Eagles to get better...and they have.  They now face the defending Conference USA champions on the road in a tough environment.  Yet USM is only a five point dog.  If you look at the rest of the schedule for the Eagles, it's pretty manageable.  And, while we aren't suggesting they're going to win em all, a win here could make that matchup in Ruston at the end of the year pretty interesting.  This is a statement game for the boys from Hattiesburg.

SATURDAY

#13 NORTHWESTERN (5-0, 1-0) at #18 MICHIGAN (4-1, 1-0) (-7.5)  2:30 B10 Network-- Northwestern keeps winning and those wins over Stanford and Duke just keep looking better and better.  But since that opening loss to Utah, Michigan has been very very good.  Both of these teams are pretty stingy defensively and this one could get decided by field position and turnovers.  Keep an eye on that over/under, which is currently at 35.

GEORGIA TECH (2-3, 0-2) at #6 CLEMSON (4-0, 1-0) (-7), 2:30, ABC--The Ramblin Wreck has been a wreck the last three weeks and they're struggling to keep the wheels from falling off after being nationally ranked earlier this year.  Clemson got a big win over Notre Dame last week...yet the oddsmakers have the Tigers as only a touchdown favorite.  Why?  They, too, are calling this a trap game...because it is.

#21 OKLAHOMA STATE (5-0, 2-0) at WEST VIRGINIA (3-1, 0-1) (-6.5)  6PM, ESPN2 -- Yes the Cowboys are unbeaten...but the oddsmakers aren't impressed.  Granted, the Mountaineers have made Morgantown a very tough place to win, but OSU is a touchdown underdog to a team that lost at Oklahoma by 20 last week.  Evidently Vegas doesn't think the public is buying the Cowboys.

#23 CALIFORNIA (5-0, 2-0) at #5 UTAH (4-0, 1-0) (-7.5) - 9 pm ESPN --It's been a long time since Cal was 5-0 and people in Berkeley are even paying attention.  But they'll have a heckuva time against a very good Utah team in a battle of two of the unbeaten teams in the FBS.  Is that Utah team that destroyed Oregon as good as we saw that night.  This will be one of many tests to give that answer.
