To the fine folks of Lafayette,

Allow me to introduce myself to you, my name is Greg Larnerd and I'm the newest member of the growing ESPN 1420 radio team and host of "The Word With G" which can be heard from 6pm to 7pm beginning September 12th. In addition, I'm going to be taking the reigns and hosting the Acadiana Postgame Show and managing the Acadiana Postgame Brand.

Here's a little bit about me and where I come from:

I'm a 27 year old import from Sandy Hook, CT, where I grew up. I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh in upstate New York and most recently lived and worked in New York City. I've hosted and worked in various sports talk radio environments in the past, working behind the scenes at CBS-NY on WFAN, to hosting a groundbreaking online sports talk radio show for CBS Local Sports. While I'm new to the area and I am technically coming from New York City, I've always considered myself a tight knit community type person with an extreme passion for sports. From everything that I've recently learned and heard about the "Hub City" of Lafayette, it seems like that is exactly what you have in this wonderful city! I couldn't be more excited to learn, grow, and cover sports in this area.

I'm really looking forward to ingraining myself in, not only the Lafayette and Louisiana sports scene, but in the local community and culture as well. I can't wait to get the opportunity to know and meet each and every one of you in the community and being there to report and support your programs during the inevitable ups and downs of the upcoming seasons that come with being passionate about sports.

There is a very special and unique sports culture here and I honestly can't wait to discuss it with you on the radio, in the community, or whenever I may run in to you around town. Please, don't ever hesitate to say hello whenever you see me out around town, call into the show, or to connect with me via social media platforms.

Thanks so much in advance for being a welcoming sports partner with me at ESPN 1420!

Sincerely,

Greg Larnerd

Greg Larnerd's bio

Sports has always been a passion for Greg whether it’s covering local or national teams, reporting news or giving his opinion on all the hot button topics that make the sports world buzz. Sports talk radio captivated the listening ear of a younger Greg while he was attending Newtown High School in CT, he was inspired and drawn to WFAN radio broadcasting out of New York City.

The fire continued to burn while he attended SUNY Plattsburgh in upstate NY. He hosted weekly sports talk radio programs, became station director, broadcasted various live college sporting events and was the first baseman of the baseball team.

After attaining his degree in Audio/Radio Production it was time for Greg to focus his attention on obtaining "a real job" and working his way up to hosting a sports talk radio show was always at the front of his mind.

His professional journey began at the aforementioned national CBS-NY WFAN sports talk radio station where he worked behind the scenes part time; cutting tape, working in the control room during live shows, and gaining valuable industry experience. All the while, diligently working and networking to create opportunities for himself to realize his dream.

In 2015, the first major sports talk radio hosting opportunity came knocking. Behind door number one was an opportunity to host the midday portion of an online streaming radio program for CBS Local Sports in NYC.

This show provided the listener with live nationwide access to 15 affiliated CBS Sports Talk Radio Stations from across the country. In addition to the CBS hosting gig, Greg has hosted two live Sports Talk Radio programs on BlogTalkRadio.com, is the Co-host on an NBA and College Football Podcasts for FanRagSports.com, and has written for CBS Local Sports and a Northeast sports website called DoubleGSports.com.

In addition to his passion for sports and sports media, Greg enjoys spending time with his family and friends.  He also enjoys playing cards, golfing, and working out to keep somewhat in his college baseball shape days.  Greg grew up in Sandy Hook, CT with his family; Ray and JoAnn his Dad and Mom and his younger sister and brother, Erica and Grant.
