Lafayette's own Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier is only days away from taking on Yancy Medeiros at UFC Fight Night in New Orleans.

Tim "The Barbarian" Boetsch and Dan Henderson headline the card, but Acadiana will be tuned into the fight with a little bit of Cajun flavor. Poirier sits at 17-4-0 overall, but he's riding high off a first round finish over Diego Ferreira and feels better after getting back to his more comfortable weight of 155 lbs. It's only Poirier's second UFC fight as a lightweight, and it's against a guy with a lot of swagger.

Poirier's opponent, Yancy Medeiros, is a 27 year old Hawaiian with an 11-2-0 record and five first round finishes. He's been known to stir things up at weigh-ins as well as inside the ring. He might be from one of the most peaceful states in the USA, but his standup game can be vicious at times. Poirier isn't one to shy away from a standing fist fight, so there could be some fireworks in the Smoothie King Center.

In the interview above, Poirier addresses how he will deal with Medeiros' cocky approach inside the Octagon, how he plans to minimize his reach and hopefully get another chance down the road at a UFC title fight. A loss to Conor McGregor set him back, but at the age of 26, there are still a lot of cards left for Dana White to fill if The Diamond gets a shining moment in New Orleans.

Prelims will start at 7:00 pm on Fox Sports 1 this Saturday, June 6th, and the headline fight is set to go off around 9:00. Tickets are also available at ticketmaster.com, or you can order by phone at 1-800-745-3000. In his home state of Louisiana, the Smoothie King Center should be loud and proud.

As a final nugget in the interview, Poirier says where you can find him in Lafayette for a week after the fight if he wins. Think pizza and beer...
