The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed outfielder Matt Kemp on the 15 day disabled list because of inflammation of the AC joint in his left shoulder.  The move is retroactive to Saturday.

Kemp, who has missed 24 games this year because of a hamstring injury, has struggled since having surgery in the off season to repair a rotator cuff.  His numbers (.254/4/24) are down considerably from his career averages.

How big a loss is this, considering the Dodgers have improved their record without Kemp in the lineup?  ESPN.com writer David Schoenfield believes a healthy Kemp is vital to the Dodgers' playoff hopes.
