Do You Even Care Alex Rodriguez Reached 3000 Hits?

Alex Rodriguez reached 3,000 hits with a home run off none other than Justin Verlander. Does anyone even care?

With stats like his, you assume he would be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Probably considered one of the greats. In his career, he now has 3,000 hits, 667 home runs, 2,004 RBI's, a bunch of needles and one whopping lie. The last two parts are what harden us to his achievements. A-Rod is a fantastic baseball player. He is also a liar and a cheat, who disrespected a prideful and revered game.

PED's, lawyers, denial...it's why we can't celebrate his milestones. If he came clean in the beginning, would we be more open to the thought? Jason Giambi did it. It was hard to do, but baseball fans eventually accepted his apology. Most of them, at least.

Just for a moment, realize what Rodriguez accomplished. In the middle of a renaissance year, where most analysts were prepared to send him out to pasture, he cracks his thirteenth home run of the year off one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. Pretty awesome, right? Not if you believe the whole thing is just a final act to a play of deception and cutting corners. It's what he will most likely be remembered for, which tears him apart.

A-Rod holds a deep respect for the history and game of baseball in general, which is so deeply rooted in irony that it's borderline Shakespearean. A man who only wants to be revered and listed along sides the greats will most likely be denied that right. Not just by the Hall of Fame voters, but by the public. Opinions have always mattered to Rodriguez, unfortunately for him, he can't change them.

One of the greatest baseball players of all time will be remembered, but not for his achievements. It's his own fault.
