The Pelicans broke a seven game losing streak against the Portland Trailblazers, 115-89, thanks to a beastly performance from Anthony Davis.

"The Brow" registered a smooth double-double with 28 points (12-21 FG, 4-5 FT) and 12 rebounds, and he was up to his usual disruption on defense with three blocks and a steal. He was glad to get some help from his buddies in the backcourt too. Tyreke Evans flirted with a triple-double (24 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds), and Jrue Holiday picked up 19 points and dropped five dimes as well...mostly to Davis.

With 44 combined points from Holiday, Evans and Eric Gordon, the team's star sees some improvement.

"We’re moving the ball, and when we move the ball guys have open looks," Davis said after the game. He added, “I think our guys are doing a great job of finding me in position where I like to score, it just so happens it’s always Jrue [Holiday].”

Right before the holidays, are the Pelicans waking up?

The defense forced Portland into shooting 34.7% from the floor, while the offense shot 48% and hit 13 threes. The Pels led 53-36 at halftime, and they actually held on for their ninth win of the season.

One point of concern for Alvin Gentry comes on the glass, where the Pelicans gave up 22 offensive rebounds. Davis said it's something coach has been harping on lately. Let's not get caught up in the negative though, the Pelicans won after all.

There's a lot of ground to make up at 9-19, but Davis is a smart basketball player to have leading the way. He dropped some interesting insight right after the game.

"We can’t play to score," Davis said. "We got to play our style of basketball and make our team be a consistent team."

It's a long NBA season, and it hasn't exactly been a smooth ride so far. If the Pels can figure it out, it might make for a much brighter 2016.
