Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden had surgery on his broken right elbow, the team announced today.

According to Cowboys RB coach Gary Brown, McFadden suffered the injury Memorial Day weekend after falling on his elbow in an attempt not to drop his cell phone.

What? How does this happen?

In the pantheon of dumb "off the field" sports injuries, this one ranks up there with sneezes, shoe laces, paper cuts and tripping over puppies, all reasons given by athletes for injuries suffered away from work.

Someone should let McFadden know about cell phone case covers. There are plenty of options that would allow his phone to hit the ground and be fine. McFadden's elbow on the other hand, is not.

He may not be back in time for the Cowboys regular season opener on September 11th.
