Athlon Sports recently released their 2013 college football preseason rankings, 1-125, on athlonsports.com.

Athlon ranks Alabama as the number one team in the country, and picks the Crimson Tide to win their third straight national championship, and third in the last four seasons.

If Alabama gets past Texas A&M on the road on September 14 the schedule should work in their favor, with their other big match-up, a November 9 contest against LSU, being a home game.

The Ohio St. Buckeyes, who went 12-0 last year, while being denied a Big Ten title, or a bowl berth, due to NCAA sanctions, is the preseason number two, followed by the Oregon Ducks, the Georgia Bulldogs, and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

At 6-10, Athlon has Clemson, Stanford, Texas A&M, Louisville, and Notre Dame.

The LSU Tigers, who went 10-3 in 2012, is ranked number 12, just behind #11 Boise St., and in front of Florida, Michigan, and Florida St.

Oklahoma St., Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, and TCU come in at spots 16-20, with Nebraska, Fresno St., Arizona St., Northwestern, and Oregon St. rounding out the top 25.

Athlon picks Louisiana's Ragin Cajuns, who are coming off of back-to-back 9-4 seasons, and consecutive victories in the New Orleans Bowl, to win the Sun Belt Conference in 2013, and ranks them #66 overall.

Other than the Cajuns, the highest ranked Sun Belt Conference school is the ULM Warhawks, at #80.

In case you're wondering, Georgia St., who will be officially joining the Sun belt Conference on July 1, and making the transition from the FCS level, to the FBS, is ranked last, at #125 in the preseason poll.

These are always fun to read, and to talk about, but these predictions and rankings are just that...preseason predictions and rankings.
