The cheerleading squad at Coastal Carolina has been suspended indefinitely after an anonymous letter accused members of the squad of prostitution and other offenses.

According to a report from WMBF-TV, the NBC affiliate in Myrtle Beach, the letter also alleges some of the girls bought alcohol for underage players and paid others to complete homework assignments.

The report also says police were waiting when the cheerleaders completed practice at the HTC Center and selected several girls to be interviewed.

The suspension is pending an investigation by the university.

A showcase scheduled for April 4th in advance of the national cheerleading competition in Daytona Beach has been taken off the school's website.  A cheerleader told the television station the squad will not be allowed to attend, although the organizers from the competition said the squad is registered and fees have been paid in full.

A picture of the squad on the school's website has been removed.

Coastal Carolina's baseball team is the defending national champion.  They joined the Sun Belt Conference July 1, 2016.
