Last week, there were rumors that Chris Jericho would leave the WWE for good. After last night’s controversial display, there’s no doubt he’ll be staying away from the ring for a good chunk of time.

Jericho was down in Sao Paulo, Brazil for a WWE RAW World Tour match against CM Punk. Before the bell rung, CM Punk waved the Brazilian flag as he was introduced. After Punk put the flag down, Jericho decided to have some ‘heel’ fun with it…

The authorities on-site didn’t take too kindly to their nation’s flag getting roughed up and intervened, threatening to arrest the former DWTS participant if he didn’t apologize. Chris dropped the act, got on the mic, admitted wrongdoing, and begged for forgiveness. The match was allowed to proceed, but the WWE won’t permit Jericho back in the ring – the organization suspended him indefinitely.

In the U.S., it is unconstitutional for a government to prohibit the desecration of a flag, due to its status as “symbolic speech.” However, content-neutral restrictions may still be imposed to regulate the time, place, and manner of such expression. We don’t know the exact details of the punishment in Brazil, but we’re the kind of guys that try to avoid jail time at all costs – we’re just too damn pretty.

While it may of been a good move for Jericho to offer up an apology, was it good for the WWE? Is there a better, bigger storyline than a superstar behind bars because of an international incident? Makes you question Jericho’s dedication to the craft.
