Longtime ESPN personality Chris Berman lost his wife in a tragic car accident in Connecticut.

Katherine Ann Berman, 67, known by her loved ones as "Kathy", was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal two-vehicle accident yesterday afternoon.

"This is a devastating tragedy and difficult to comprehend," John Skipper, president of ESPN, said in a statement released to the press. "Chris is beloved by all his ESPN colleagues and for good reason: He has a huge heart and has given so much to so many over the years. We know how much his family means to him and all we can do at a moment like this is give him the love and support he will surely need at this hour. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris, Meredith, Doug and the entire family."

Berman and Kathy were married for 33 years.

According to the police report of the crash, Berman's vehicle struck the back of Edward Bertulis' car while both were traveling in the same direction. Bertulis, 87, was pronounced dead. His car flipped after hitting a utility pole, while Berman's SUV veered off road and overturned in a small body of water.

Our thought and prayers are with both victims and their families at this time.

Teams from around the NFL, including the Saints, have shared their condolences.
