Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns took an early shot from Troy, hit right back, and settled in for a dramatic 11 inning game.

After leading 5-4 going into the 9th inning, Troy 3B TJ Binder knocked in an RBI single to tie it up.

In extra innings, both teams squared off for 11 outs until Cajun 1B Greg Davis batted in pinch runner Jam Williams with a walk-off RBI single to shallow center field, helping Louisiana procure a 6-5 victory.

"What I liked is that when they hit us early, we hit right back," said Louisiana head baseball coach Tony Robichaux. "We missed some opportunities, but in the end, we got the win over a good team."

Troy hit Cajun freshmen RHP Evan Guillory for 5 hits and 3 runs in the top of the 1rst, including a 2 run homer by Logan Hill.

Undeterred, Louisiana batters answered with a strong first inning of their own, scoring 3 earned runs on 5 hits, including a solo homerun from catcher Nick Thurman.

The Cajuns took a one run lead in the 4th on shortstop Blake Trahan's 2 run homer, his first of the season.

Trahan had quite the night at the plate, earning 3 hits in 4 ABs, 2 runs, 2 RBI and a walk.

"The thing about him is he's never going to back down," said Robichaux. "His approach will remain the same when he's at the plate, no matter what the situation is."

With the victory, the Cajuns improve to 8-5 overall, and 1-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Before the game, the Cajun coaching staff presented Troy head coach Bobby Pierce with a signed UL bat, along with a wrapped gift.

Pierce, coaching in his final season, is a good friend of Robichaux's.

"We figured, he likes to spent so much time on the beach in Panama City, we'd get him a Ragin' Cajun shirt," said a grinning Robichaux. "He's a friend, and has done a great job at Troy. Just look at how his team fought tonight."

Louisiana will look to take the series tomorrow in Game 2 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. First pitch is set for 2:00. Pregame on News Talk 96.5 KPEL begins at 1:30.
