On Tuesday night in the semifinal round of the Gulf Coast Showcase the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns fell to the Toledo Rockets 77-64.

It was a dismal start for the Cajuns against Toledo as the Rockets got out to a fast 9-0 run and their best player Jakeenan Gant was forced to the bench with two fouls within the first three minutes of the contest. The team started out 0-6 from beyond the arc and it didn't seem like anyone could get into rhythm offensively.

About halfway through the first half Louisiana started to push the pace, getting out in transition and got back in the ballgame with a 13-0 run to briefly take a 19-18 lead.

Ultimately, the Cajuns would trail at the half 33-32 but they had played much better in the second half of the first half of the game. They had very balanced scoring with five players with either six or seven points.

To open up the second half the Rockets were rolling as they went on an 11-1 run to give themselves a 53-39 lead.

Jakeenan Gant was able to keep himself out of foul trouble for the second half and was able to play strong on both the offensive and defensive ends. However, with about eight minutes remaining in the second half they were trailing 60-52 and shooting just 3-17 from three point land.

Louisiana would hit a drought towards the end of this game as they went more than four minutes without a basket which opened up the deficit to 20 points, 73-53.

It would be a rough shooting night that would ultimately do this UL team in as they were just 26-72 from the floor (36.1%). The final was 77-64 in favor of Toledo.

Despite the foul trouble Jakeenan Gant lead the team with 16 points and nine rebounds. Marquetti, Stroman, and Wesley each poured in double figure point totals as well. The team also got out-rebounded 44-31 and the Rockets out passed UL in assists 15-5.

With the loss the Cajuns fall to 2-3 on the season and will play Tulane in the third place game tomorrow at 4:00 pm in the Gulf Coast Showcase.
