The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team opened up Sun Belt Conference play at San Marcos, Texas facing Texas State on Friday.

Summer Ellyson got the ball for UL and she got plenty of support early and often in this game.

The Cajuns opened the game strong in the first inning when Sarah Hudek blasted a solo home run to give them a 1-0 lead.

In the second and third innings, Louisiana put a combined four runs on the Bobcats as Rania O'Neal went two-run big fly, Bailey Curry then recorded an RBI single and Julie Rawls finished up the scoring in the third with a sac-fly. 5-0 UL.

The Bobcats were able to get one back in the third when Christiana McDowell knocked a solo shot of her own off of Summer Ellyson. 5-1 UL.

Finally, the Cajuns notched one more run in the fifth when Julie Rawls crushed an RBI double to left center and that's all Louisiana would need as they defeated Texas State 6-1.

Summer Ellyson went five innings, allowed four hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts. Kandra Lamb came in, in relief and pitched two clean innings to close the game out. With the win, Ellyson improves to 10-3 on the year.

Sarah Hudek led the way hitting as she went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. In addition, Julie Rawls finished 2-2 with a run and two RBI's and Raina O'Neal went 1-3 with the two-run home run.

For the Cajuns, they improved to 16-3 and 1-0 in conference play.

The two teams will play game two of the three tomorrow at 2 p.m.
