Louisiana Ragin' Cajun junior running back Elijah McGuire lands on a prestigious college football watch list for the second day in a row.

Yesterday, it was the Paul Hornung Award watch list, compiled of the most versatile players in college football.

Today, it's the Maxwell Award watch list. The award is given to college football's best player.

Two other players reigning from the state of Louisiana are on the list of 80 players, including LSU's Leonard Fournette and Louisiana Tech's Kenneth Dixon.

McGuire is also one of four players from the Sun Belt Conference to make the cut, as Fredi Knighten of Arkansas State, Marcus Cox of Appalachian State and Matt Brieda Georgia Southern are all represented as well.

The Maxwell Award will trim down the list to the three finalists on November 23rd, with the winner being announced on December 10th.

McGuire, the reigning 2014 Sun Belt Conference player of the year, has rushed for 2127 yards and 22 touchdowns, while adding 67 catches for 852 yards and another 5 touchdowns over the last two years.

Last season, his 7.61 average yards per carry was third best in the NCAA.

Louisiana kicks off the season September 5th in Lexington against the University of Kentucky.
