On day two of the Major League Baseball draft, Todd Lott got the call.

The Ragin' Cajuns outfielder was selected in the ninth round by the St. Louis Cardinals as the 275th overall pick.

Lott had his best season as a Cajun in 2019, finishing second on the club with a .332 batting average.  He slugged .505 with nine doubles, one triple and eight homers.  His 48 RBI led the club and he stole 12 bases in 16 attempts.

Lott saved his best for conference play, finishing fifth in batting, fifth in hits, seventh in homers, third in RBI and had an on base plus slugging of 1.054.

Lott was a first team all-conference performer as a utility player, having served as an outfielder, first baseman and designated hitter in the 2019 campaign.

Lott  who was selected in the 20th round by the Cincinnati Reds coming out of high school, was the only position player in the Sun Belt who was selected in the first ten rounds.  His slot figure is $152,000.

The first ten rounds of the draft were fruitful for players from Louisiana and the Sun Belt.

Tulane's Kody Hoese was the first taken with the 25th overall pick by the Dodgers.  LSU had four players selected, as infielder Josh Smith was taken in the second round by the New York Yankees.  Teammates Zach Watson (OF) went to Baltimore in the third round, while pitchers Zach Hess (Detroit) and Todd Peterson (Washington) were both taken in the seventh round.

Northwestern State RHP Nathan Jones was selected by the New York Mets in the fifth round.

RHP Hunter Gaddis was the first Sun Belt player selected.  The Georgia State right hander went to Cleveland in the fifth round.  Georgia Southern's Seth Shuman was taken by the Oakland A's in the sixth round.  South Alabama right hander Zach Greene was selected by the Yankees in the eighth round and Texas State right hander Hunter McMahon was picked by Washington in the ninth round.  Coastal Carolina LHP Anthony Veneziano was tabbed by the Kansas City Royals

Former Ragin' Cajun Johnny Rizer, who played one season at Louisiana before transferring to a junior college and then TCU, was taken in the seventh round by the Baltimore Orioles.
