Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns football team is giving up 35 points per game and ranks at or near the bottom of the league in pass defense, total defense and opponents' third down conversion percentage.

Head football coach Mark Hudspeth is turning to a familiar face for help.

Matt Wallerstedt, who served as Hudspeth's defensive coordinator for one season at North Alabama, has been hired by as a defensive consultant.

The hiring was first reported by Thayer Evans at si.com.

Wallerstedt was on Hudspeth's staff in 2003 when North Alabama went 13-1.

Most recently, Wallerstedt was the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech for the 2013 season, but resigned for personal reasons three games into the 2014 season.  ESPN.com has reported Wallerstedt was sent home for being under the influence of an unknown substance, but Wallerstedt refuted the charge.

The Cajuns have struggled on defense all season long and currently are ranked last in the Sun Belt in pass defense (272.2 ypg), ninth in total defense (458.0.)  They are also ninth in opponents' third down conversions, allowing 48.7 success.  The Cajuns have only nabbed one turnover through five games.
