Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun football team won their Sun Belt Conference opener, defeating favorite FIU 36-31. Quarterback Blaine Gautier threw for 3 touchdowns, and finished with 307 yards of total offense. The win is the third straight for UL, and puts them at 1-0 in the SBC.

The Cajuns (3-1, 1-0) won the field position battle all night long as sophomore punter Brett Baer pinned FIU deep five times, while the Cajuns returners totaled 241 yards on 10 returns.

The Louisiana defense stepped up, as they kept quarterback Jake Medlock on his toes all game long, posting three sacks and seven tackles-for-loss.

Gautier connected with Javone Lawson for 46-yard touchdown strike to give the Cajuns a 12-point lead with 12:40 left in the fourth quarter.
