There were many prognosticators that believed if Tulane was selected as an at-large team, they would be sent to Baton Rouge and they were right.

There were many who believed if Tulane was in Baton Rouge, the Cajuns would be sent west to Houston, and they were right.

The Cajuns are the #3 seed at the Houston Regional and they'll face a familiar foe in the Rice Owls in their first round matchup on Friday at 2:30pm.

The Cajuns and Owls are meeting in a regional for the first time since 2010 when the two teams split a pair of games.  Louisiana (39-21) defeated the Owls,(35-20) 1-0 in their first round match before Rice eliminated the Cajuns from the tournament two days later.

Houston ( 42-18) earned the host site by playing great baseball down the stretch.  The Cajuns and Cougars have already played this season, with the Cajuns scoring three runs in the ninth inning to win 6-5 at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The three teams will be joined by Houston Baptist (28-25), the Southland Conference tournament Champion.  The Huskies were the #7 seed and went through the tournament, defeating Sam Houston State for the title.

Houston and Rice both received at-large bids after winning the regular season titles in the American and Conference USA respectively.

The Houston Regional is paired with the Baton Rouge regional, where LSU earned the #2 overall national seed.  The Tigers (48-10) will take on Lehigh (25-29) , the Patriot League tournament champion.  UNC Wilmington (39-16) received the #2 seed after winning the Colonial Tournament and the Seahawks will meet Tulane (34-23) an at-large selection out of the American Conference.

UCLA was the #1 overall seed, while Louisville, Florida State, Miami, Illinois, TCU and Missouri State also received top eight national seeds.
