Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football announced their new offensive coordinator this morning, and it's a familiar face. Jorge Munoz has been promoted from wide receivers coach to offensive coordinator, while John Simon has been hired as the new WR coach, the school announced this morning.

Munoz is no stranger to Cajun fans. He's time with Louisiana dates back prior to the Mark Hudspeth era. Munoz joined Ricky Bustle's staff in 2008 as the passing game coordinator. When Hud arrived in 2011, he sifted over to WR coach.

"I have all the confidence that Jorge will do a great job," Hudspeth said in a University press release. "During this process of interviewing coaches, it became more clear that we already had the best person for the job on staff. Jorge is very creative, diligent and organized. We share a lot of similar ideas and philosophies."

In a radio appearance on ESPN1420 Wednesday, Hudspeth said he's as comfortable as he's been "in a long time" with his offensive staff, noting there would be a few wrinkles added to the Cajuns spread attack on offense next season.

Simon comes to the Cajuns from Southern Miss, where he spent the previous 3 seasons as the Golden Eagles running backs coach.

As a Baton Rouge native, Hudspeth feels Simon's Louisiana roots will aid him in recruiting for the Cajuns.

"John not only is an excellent teacher, he is an excellent recruiter and will be especially effective in the state of Louisiana, most notably in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans area," Hudspeth said in the release. "He was a part of one of the most effective scoring offenses in the country last season at Southern Miss."

Simon's hire awaits approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors before becoming official.
