Louisiana Ragin' Cajun head coach Mark Hudspeth announced the hiring of a new assistant coach today, adding veteran Mike Lucas to his staff.

“We’re excited to have someone with Mike Lucas’ experience joining our staff,” Hudspeth said in a University press release. “He is known as a great recruiter and has great ties in the state of Louisiana from being a head coach and has great recruiting ties in the state of Texas. He will be a great fit and a tremendous asset to our program and we’re excited for him and his wife (Wendy) in joining our Ragin’ Cajuns family.”

Lucas comes to UL from Northwestern State, where he spent one season with the Demons as defensive coordinator/linebackers coach.

Lucas is a 36 year coaching veteran, serving as head coach of Southeastern Louisiana from 2007-2011, earning All-Louisiana Coach of the Year honors in 2009.

During his lengthy career, Lucas as a coordinator or positional coach at Indiana State, Eastern New Mexico, Liberty, William and Mary, and UTEP.
