Louisiana Ragin' Cajun backup quarterback Jalen Nixon has been suspended indefinitely according to UL sports information director Matt Sullivan.

“Jalen Nixon has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules," said Sullivan. "However, he is still on scholarship and eligible to practice."

The cause of Nixon's suspension was not disclosed.

Nixon, a 6'2 sophomore who prepped at Carencro high, finished last season with 108 yards passing and a touchdown during his redshirt freshmen campaign. He served as the primary backup to starter Terrance Broadway at the R & L Carrier's New Orleans Bowl, taking meaningful snaps in the second half of the Cajuns 24-21 win over Tulane.

With Nixon's suspension, Broadway's primary backup will be Brooks Haack. Haack, a sophomore out of Katy, Texas, finished the 2013 season with 224 yards passing, 1 touchdown and 1 interception, completing 21 passes in 35 attempts. Haack spent the entire regular season of 2013 as Broadway's first backup.

Tim Buckley of The Advertiser was the first to report on Nixon's suspension.
