In the midst of an NCAA investigation into multiple sports at Boise State, long time athletics director Gene Bleymaier has been fired.

Bleymaier, who served as AD at Boise State for 30 years, will end his tenure on September 8.

He was responsible for the installation of the blue turf that adorns the football stadium and oversaw Boise's rise to prominence in college football.

Football, mens' and womens' tennis and track and field have all been accused of violations.  Boise State has already self-imposed penalties and it is unknown whether the NCAA will add to those penalties.

While most, if not all of the individual violations are considered secondary, Boise was charged with a lack of institutional control in the allegations by the NCAA.  That is considered to be a major charge.
