All summer long, we’ve listed the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #96.

Today, #97:

The pick: La'Roi Glover

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #97, the choice is limited to defensive linemen/linebacker Renaldo Turnbull, and defensive linemen James Geathers, La’Roi Glover, Dennis Monroe, Johnathan Sullivan, Michael Haynes, Josh Cooper, Alvin McKinley, and Jeff Charleston.

Our choice is going to be Glover, a defensive lineman, who played for the Saints for 5 years, from 1997--2001.

After playing his college football at San Diego St., Glover was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the fifth round of the 1996 NFL Draft.

A native of San Diego, California, Glover played one year with the Raiders, before joining the Saints in 1997.

The 6-foot-2, 285-pound Glover was primarily a reserve in 1997, before becoming a starter at defensive tackle in 1998, when he compiled 59 tackles, including 10 sacks.

Glover went on to start for the Saints for the next three years, including 2000, when he finished with a career-high 17 sacks, while being named to the Pro Bowl in both the 2000 and 2001 season.

After leaving the Saints following the 2001 campaign, Glover played four seasons for the Dallas Cowboys, and three for the St. Louis Rams, before retiring after the 2008 season.

In 5 seasons with the Saints, Glover appeared in 79 games, including 65 as a starter, collecting 219 tackles, 50 sacks, and 11 fumble recoveries.

In 13 NFL seasons, Glover appeared in 193 games, including 167 as a starter, compiling 432 tackles, 83.5 sacks, and 18 fumble recoveries, while being named to the Pro Bowl on six occasions.
