Best Saints By The Numbers: #95
All summer long, we’ve listed the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.
Yesterday, we did #94.
Today, #95:
The pick: Austin Robbins
When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #95, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Jonathan Dumbauld, Robert Brannon, Travis Davis, Ronnie Dixon, Ernest Jones, Austin Robbins, Howard Green, Marques Douglas, Cedric Woodard, Eric Moore, Trevor Johnson, Josh Savage, Rodney Leisle, and Brandon Deaderick.
Our choice is going to be Robbins, a defensive lineman, who played for the Saints for 4 years, from 1996-1999.
While not exactly a household name, Robbins wore the number the longest, and is one of only three players to wear it for longer than a year.
A native of Washington, D.C., Robbins was a reserve in his fire Raiders, before joining the Saints in 1996.
The 6-foot-6, 290-pound Robbins started 7 games defensive tackle in 1996, compiling 21 tackles, including one sack.
Robbins was mostly a reserve during in the 1997-1999 seasons, totaling 19 tackles, to go along with 3 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries, including one for a touchdown.
Robbins finished out his career in 2000, playing briefly with both the Raiders and Packers.
In 4 seasons with the Saints, Robbins appeared in 57 games, including 11 as a starter, collecting 40 tackles and 4 sacks.
In 8 NFL seasons, Robbinss appeared in 80 gams, including 11 as a starter, compiling 61 tackles, 6 sacks, and 4 fumble recoveries.
