All summer long, we’ve listed the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #89.

Today, #90:

The pick: James Williams

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #90, the choice is limited to linebackers James Williams and Walter Johnson, and defensive linemen Jared Tomich, Kenny Smith, and DeMario Pressley.

With not a large group to choose from, our selection is going to be Williams, a linebacker, who played for the Saints for 5 years, from 1990-1994.
After playing his college football at Mississippi St., Williams was selected by the Saints in the sixth round of the 1990 NFL Draft.

A native of Natchez, Mississippi, Williams spent the first three years of his career in New Orleans as a reserve and special teams performer, compiling 46 tackles.

The 6-foot, 246-pound Williams became a part-time starter at inside linebacker for the Saints in the 1993-1994 seasons, starting 16 games, while racking up 148 tackles, along with two sacks and an interception.

Williams' best season was 1993, when he totaled 89 tackles, including two sacks.

Following the 1994 season, Williams left the Saints, and joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, with whom he played for one seasons, before playing two seasons for the San Francisco 49ers, and one year for the Cleveland Browns, prior to retiring following the 1999 campaign.

In 5 seasons with the Saints, in which he appeared in 78 games, including 20 as a starter, Williams totaled 194 tackles, to go along with 3 sacks and 2 interceptions.

In 9 NFL seasons, Williams finished with 254 tackles, including 4 sacks, along with 4 interceptions.
