All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #80.

Today, #81:

The pick: Michael Haynes

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #81, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Doug Atkins, tight ends Jesse Anderson, Scott Slutzker, Lamont Hall, and Zach Hilton, and receivers, Michael Haynes, Randal Hill, Lawrence Dawsey, AzZahir Hakim, David Patten.

Our selection is going to be Haynes, a receiver, who played for the Saints for 3 years, from 1994-1996.

After playing his college football at Northern Arizona, Haynes was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the seventh round of the 1988 NFL Draft.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Haynes caught 254 passes for 4,066 yards and 33 touchdowns in his six seasons with the Falcons.

The 6-foot, 184-pound Haynes was signed by the Saints as a free agent prior to the 1994 season.

In 3 years with the Saints, Haynes appeared in 48 games, including 41 as a starter, racking up 162 catches for 2,368 yards and 13 touchdowns.

In 10 NFL seasons, Haynes appeared in 147 games, including 113 as a starter, finishing with 428 receptions for 6,588 yards and 47 touchdowns.
