All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #71

Today, #72:

The pick: Jim Dombrowski

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #72, the choice is limited to defensive linemen Earl Leggett, Mike Fultz, and Montavious Stanley, and offensive linemen Don Talbert, Jeff Hart, Leon Gray, Chris Ward, Jim Dombrowski, Trezelle Jenkins, Terron Armstead, and Wayne Gandy.

Our selection is going to be Dombrowski, an offensive lineman, who played for the Saints for 11 years, from 1986-1996.

After playing his college football at Virginia, Dombrowski was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 1986 NFL Draft.

A native of Williamsville, New York, Dombrowski started three games at guard in his rookie year, getting a taste of life in the NFL.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Dombrowski became the team’s starting left tackle in 1987, starting 26 games at that position over a two-year period, before making the switch back to left guard, where he was the starter for the next seven years.

Dombrowski retired following the 1996 season.

In 11 NFL seasons, all with the Saints, Dombrowski appeared in 151 games, including 137 as a starter.
