All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #30.

Today, #31:

The pick: Pierson Prioleau

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #31, the choice is limited to running back Jim Taylor, and defensive backs Richard Newsome, Aaron Glenn, Pierson Prioleau, and Jarius Byrd.

This is a really tough one, because there are only five players that ever wore the number, with Prioleau wearing it for more than one year, and he was mostly a special teams player.

So really, do you go with Taylor, who is a Hall of Famer, but was well passed his prime when he played his only season for the Saints in 1967?

Do you go with Byrd, a big money free agent acquisition prior to the 2014 season, who was limited to four games due to injury?

Strange as it may seem, we're going with Prioleau, a defensive back/special teams performer, who played two years fro the Saints, from 2009-2010.

After finishing histh college career at Virginia Tech, Prioleau was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Prioleau spent to seasons with the 49ers, four with the Buffalo Bills, three with the Washington Redskins, and one with the Jacksonville Jaguars, before signing with the Saints prior to the 2009 season.

Spending most of his time as a special teams standout, Prioleau registered 39 tackles in two years with the team.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Prioleau, who retired following his time in New Orleans, accumulated 348 tackles, four fumble recoveries, and one interception in his 12 NFL seasons.
