All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #12.

Today, #13:

The pick: Joe Morgan

When picking the best Saints player ever to wear #13, the choice is limited to quarterbacks Kerry Collins, Larry Cipa, and Doug Nussmeier, and receivers Rod Harper, J.J. McCleskey, and Joe Morgan.

Our pick, by default, is Morgan.

Yeah, it's hard to pick a guy who has only 14 career recpetions, but who else would you pick?

Collins? Well, you could make an argument for him, as the pickings are slim, but he played only one year with the team, including only seven starts. And the key with Collins is he played poorly, throwing four touchdowns, compared to ten interceptions, while finishing his short stint with the Saints in 1998 with a miserable 54.5 quarterback rating.

Sure, Collins, who threw for over 40,000 yards and 200 touchdowns, has had the best NFL career of this bunch, but his time with the Saints, while not entirely all his fault, left a lot to be desired.

So, the pick is Morgan.

After playing his collegiate football at Illinois and Walsh, Morgan made a splash in the preseason, catching three touchdown passes, but was injured, and place on injured reserve.

A native of Canton, Ohio, Morgan made the squad in 2012, and became a big play receiver, catching 10 passes for 379 yards, an average of 37.9 yards-per-catch, along with 3 touchdowns.

After suffering a knee injury and missing the 2013 season, and being suspended by the team in October of 2014, Morgan returned in November to catch four passes for 92 yards.

Morgan was waived by the Saints in December, but then was rejoined the team in April.

In 19 career games, Morgan has totaled 14 catches for 471 yards and three touchdowns.
