The Arkansas State Red Wolves got ten hits in the game Friday night against Louisiana.

They also were the recipient of eleven walks, three hit batsmen and two errors.

The Red Wolves took advantage en route to a 12-6 win over the Cajuns Friday night at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.

The Red Wolves (20-11, 8-2 Sun Belt) got on the board off Louisiana starter Jacob Schultz (0-1) when Will Zimmerman walked with one out.  He would eventually score on a balk.  Schultz would leave without retiring a batter in the second inning, giving up three hits and a walk around a Cajuns' error.  Grant Cox came in and got out of the inning after giving up a walk and another Cajun error and it was 5-0 after two innings.

The Red Wolves got another run in the fourth when a leadoff walk yielded a run thanks to an RBI single by Tyler Duncan, but Louisiana finally got on the board in the fourth when Todd Lott led off with a single, increasing his hitting streak to 14 games.  After a force play and a strikeout, Brennan Breaux singled and the two runners moved up on a balk.  Orynn Veillon then laced a two run double down the left field line and Kole McKinnon followed with an RBI single to cut the lead to 6-3.

Starter Zach Jackson (5-1) worked the first six innings for the Red Wolves, allowing eight hits and three runs.  He walked only one and struck out four.

Arkansas State put the game away in the seventh when Cox walked the leadoff batter, bringing on Brock Batty.  Batty gave up a hit, committed an error and hit a batter before a two run double led to a five run inning, putting A-State in front 11-6.  The Cajuns got a pair of runs in the seventh on Lott's two run homer and another in the eighth on a bases loaded walk.

"We set a bad tempo on the mound tonight from the beginning," head coach Tony Robichaux said.  The only pitcher who really gave us a chance to win was Grant Cox.  Then we let the game get away from us in the seventh and it made our attempted push irrelevant.

Veillon had four hits to lead the Cajuns, who out hit the Red Wolves 11-10.  Lott and Tremaine Spears each had two hits for the Cajuns.  Tyler Duncan led A-State with three hits, while Will Zimmerman had two.

The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at 4:00 pm.
