Although Commissioner Bud Selig continues to talk confidently about Major League Baseball playoff expansion, there are scheduling issues that could prevent it from happening this year.

Selig wants to expand by adding one wild card team in each league.  The two wild card teams in each league would play a one-game "play-in" game and then the playoffs would continue as normal.

But, since the 2012 schedule was done before the sides agreed to expand the playoffs, and since the postseason has to start on a certain date, there may not be time to get an extra playoff game in.

MLB must present the final proposal to the Players Union by March 1st.  Most feel something can be worked out, but time has become a factor.
