ESPN1420's Kevin Foote has a real job.

And, over the weekend, he received his organization's highest honor.

Foote, the longtime sportswriter and now, sports engagement editor for the Lafayette Daily Advertiser, has been named the Louisiana Sportswriters' Association's Sportswriter of the Year.

Foote, who has hosted the popular ESPN1420 sports talk show "Footnotes" for the last 17 years, received first place awards in the Pro Column category for his commentary on Drew Brees still being an elite quarterback,, best feature on the closing of Lloyd Porter Stadium in New Iberia and a story on local reaction to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association parting ways with former commissioner Kenny Henderson.  He also received a second place award for his insight as to whether the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had outgrown the New Orleans Bowl.

The announcement was made during the LSWA Hall of Fame Weekend in Natchitoches.

And, on a related note, our good friend Mary Beth McDonald was the recipient of the prestigious Mac Russo award, presented annually for over thirty years "to the person who has contributed to the progress, ideals and fellowship of the LSWA."  She is only the third non-writer to ever be honored with the award.  If you know Mary Beth, you're probably wondering what took them so long.
