Former Ragin' Cajun and LSU Softball Coach Yvette Girouard will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, and she couldn't be more proud.

A legend in the state and softball community, Girouard helped build the Cajuns into the powerhouse that they continue to be to this day. She also did something very few could ever pull off: go from coaching the Cajuns in Lafayette to the place right down the road where folks wear purple and gold and have both fan bases still love her. Folks in Louisiana appreciate it when something is built from the ground up with passion and grit. Girouard started with nothing.

She built up the Cajun program from scratch, now they live in the NCAA Tournament. She's in an elite group of three coaches to ever take two separate teams to the College World Series. Her 1,285 career wins place fourth all time in the collegiate softball record books. Still not convinced of her greatness?

The Broussard native could have left Louisiana on several occasions. Instead, she decided to remain in the state she loved so dearly to continue building what she started. This week, the state of Louisiana will pay her back with an induction into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

She joins other Acadiana rock stars, and former NFL players, Jake Delhomme and Kevin Faulk in the Class of 2015. That's a pretty strong trio. If you want to know more about the first softball coach to ever be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, let Dan McDonald paint an eloquent picture for you.

I met Coach Girouard, or "Ms. Yvette" as she told me to call her with a smile, in high school. When we first met, I had no idea the quality of the hand I was shaking. I just ate the delicious blue crab she caught earlier that morning, my first taste of the delectable creature since moving to the state in 2006. Years later, I had the honor of asking her about her induction into the most prestigious list of sports figures in her beloved state.

You can tell from watching the video how much this means to her. The only thing she might love more than softball is the state of Louisiana.
