Caleb Moore, the snowmobiler who crashed during the Winter X Games last week in Colorado, died on Thursday at the age of 25, from injuries sustained in the January 24 accident.

Moore's family announced his passing, which is the first death in the 18-year history of the X Games, an event which is produced by ESPN.

Moore, who was born in Klum, Texas is a four-time Snowmobile Freestyle gold medal winner in the X Games. Last year,  he captured the bronze medal, with his brother, Colten, winning gold.

In the finals of this year's Snowmobile Freestyle, Moore lost control and his vehicle, which bounced off of him after he fell into the snow. He was attempting a backflip in the freestyle event when snowmobile caught the lip of the landing area.

Moore managed to walk off the course and went to the hospital to treat a concussion. At that point, doctors discovered bleeding in his heart, and then later began experiencing bleeding in his brain.
