Without Davis And Gordon, Hornets Get Smoked By Thunder

The New Orleans Hornets traveled to Oklahoma City without the services of Anthony Davis (didn’t make the trip with sprained left shoulder) and Eric Gordon (sits out second game of back-to-backs to rest surgically repaired knee) to battle the Thunder Wednesday night. With the odds stacked against them, the Hornets weren’t just beaten by the Thunder, but were embarrassed, losing 119-74.

As good as New Orleans point guard Greivis Vasquez has been this season, he had serious issues staying in front of OKC point guard Russell Westbrook, who set a fast pace early and never let up. He scored 20 points in the first half, 16 of his team’s first 26, and penetrated at will. Thunder forward Kevin Durant finished with a triple-double (18 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists).

New Orleans missed Gordon’s scoring, as well as Davis’ defensive presence. The Thunder scored 52 points in the paint, dominating New Orleans inside.

Ryan Anderson led the Hornets in scoring with only 14 points. No other Hornet even reached double-figures. Yeah, it was that bad.

Head coach Monty Williams described Davis’ injury as day-to-day, leaving his status for Friday night’s game versus the Detroit Pistons unknown at this time. Tip-off from the Hive tomorrow is set for 7:00.
