Webb Simpson shot a final round 68 to outlast the field and win the United States Open by one stroke in San Francisco.

Simpson (+1) had four birdies to put himself in contention and made a tough par on the 18th that proved to be the winner over Graeme McDowell and first round leader Michael Thompson.

Jim Furyk, who led after three rounds, bogeyed two of the last three holes to finish two shots back.  Furyk snap-hooked his tee shot on the 16th hole to fall out of the lead and never got it back.

Tiger Woods was out of it early.  Trailing by five shots going into the final round, Woods played the first six holes in six over par before rallying to post a 73.
