Matt Williams

The Washington Nationals are set to name former Arizona Diamondbacks third base coach Matt Williams their new manager.

The 47-year old Williams will replace former manager Davey Johnson, who announced before the season that 2013 would be his last.

A five-time All-Star third baseman for the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks, Williams accumulated 1,878 hits, including 378 home runs during a 17-year Major League career, on in which he was named an All-Star five times.

Williams, who served as Arizona's third base coach from 2011-2013 and was also the team's first base coach in 2010, will be the sixth manager that the franchise has had since moving to Washington in 2005.

Prior to 2005, the franchise was located in Montreal, and known as the Expos.
