Venus, Serena Both Advance to Wimbledon Semis
Could the Williams sisters be on a collision course to an All-American Wimbledon Final?
Venus advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2009 with a 7-6.-6-2 win over Yaraslova Shvedova of Kazakhstan. Williams trailed 5-2 in the first set tiebreaker, but reeled off five straight points and then ran away with the second set. Venus will fave Australian Open Winner Angelique Kerber in the semis. The #4 seed dispached #5 Simona Halep in her quarterfinal match.
Serena, meanwhile, defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyunchenkova 6-4, 6-4 to run her Wimbledon record in quarterfinals to 10-2. Her opponent will be Elena Visnena, another Russian, in the semifinals. Visnena is the first unseed player to reach the Wimbledon semis since 2010.
