Bobby Valentine is going to be the new manager of the Boston Red Sox.

Valentine, who has been in Japan on business, was scheduled to fly back to Boston late tonight and will be introduced as the Sox manager on Thursday, according to reports.

Valentine has previously managed the Texas Rangers and New York Mets.  He also managed for several years in Japan.

Valentine most recently has been working as a baseball analyst for ESPN.

He will replace Terry Francona, whose contract was not renewed by the Red Sox after the team went 7-20 in September and fell out of a playoff spot.
