Simone Fields, a senior member of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun women's basketball team, is closing in on a career milestone.

Currently with 996 career scoring points, Fields is just four points shy of becoming the 12th women's basketball player in UL history to accomplish the feat.

A native of San Antonio, Fields, a 4-year starter, scored 225 points in her freshman year, and 312 in her sophomore year, before pouring in 535 points last year as a junior.

This season, through two games, Fields has scored 24 points.

She should eclipse the 1,000-point plateau when the Cajuns take on Toledo on Saturday in the consolation round of the WNIT.

Barring injury, Fields should finish her career in the top five in career scoring, as she in only 289 points short of accomplishing that.

In addition, Fields, a Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference First-Team selection, has compiled 547 career rebounds, just 6 short of breaking into the UL top ten in that department.

Again, barring injury, it's likely that Fields will finish her career with a top five total in that department as well.

Playing with such outstanding players as Keke Veal, Kia Wilridge, and Jaylyn Gordon throughout much of her time at Louisiana, Fields has kind of flown under the radar.

Still, statistics will supply evidence that she is one of the top ten players in program history.
