The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball outfielder Aleah Craighton.

Craighton,who last week was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year, was announced on Wednesday as one of 50 players named to the “Watch List” for the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award.

An NFCA second team All-American last season, Craighton hit a .378, to go along with 18 home runs, 56 runs batted in, an .851 slugging percentage, and a .503 on-base percentage.

A junior from Dutchtown High School n Prairieville, Louisiana, Craighton earned first team All-Sun Belt Conference and first team All-Louisiana honors last season.

The pre-season “Watch List” includes 26 seniors, 18 juniors and 6 sophomores, with freshman ineligible for consideration. Athletes named to the “Watch List” represent 37 NCAA Division I universities and 13 athletic conferences.

The Top 25 Finalists for the award will be announced April 12. The Top 10 Finalists will be announced May 10 and the Top 3 announced May 24. The 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year winner will be revealed May 30.

The 11th-ranked Cajuns open their 2017 regular season schedule on Friday, Feb. 10, taking on DePaul (3 pm) and Iowa St. (5:30 pm) in the first day of play in the 31st Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park.

The tournament will mark the first 6 games of a season-opening 23-game homestand  that runs through March 7.
