According to a report from Tabby Soignier of the Louisiana Gannett, ULM has fired head baseball coach Jeff Schexnaider, less than two years after leading the Warhaws to an NCAA Regional.

Schexnaider has been replaced by hitting coach Bruce Peddie on an interim basis. Peddie is in his first season at ULM, but not his first in the Sun Belt. He was head baseball coach at UNO before being fired last May.

Peddie is hoping for a similar early result that Schexnaider gave the Warhawks. Schexnaider became the interim coach at ULM in 2006 when Brad Holland was fired after an 0-13 start. Schexnaider led the Warhawks to unprecedented success on the baseball diamond, leading ULM to a Sun Belt Conference championship in 2008, the same season he was named conference Coach of the Year.

He is currently the only head coach in ULM athletics 5 major sports (football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball) with a SBC championship and postseason victory (2012 regional win over Belmont).

ULM has struggled this season, sporting an 8-17 record, including a 1-5 mark in conference play. Less than two weeks ago, the #1 ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team swept the Warhawks in 3 games by a combined score of 39-4.

Schexnaider is still due a buyout. He makes $80,000 a year, and his current contract was slated to expire on June 30, 2015. He finishes his head coaching stint at ULM with a record of 212-251.
